What is this blog? Travel, parenting and expat life

It turns out that it’s kind of a big deal to move internationally when you have a career and a mortgage and a family and all those trappings of midlife.

Before we decided to make our big family move, I flirted with and daydreamed about the idea of picking up and moving. But when I would ask the internet for inspiration, to take a peek into a crystal ball and see what might be, I couldn’t find much about other families that have taken the leap. Maybe my Googling skills are weak or maybe other families are just too busy to blog about their big moves?

Sure, there are tons of freelancers and instagrammers out there talking about their young, fun, single, baggage-free expat lives. But I want to know about people like me - the haggard middle-aged moms who rotate between two outfits (day pajamas, night pajamas) and eat popcorn for dinner on a regular basis. Where’s my tribe of moms? Answer: at home, loading the dishwasher.

So I’m going to document our own moving journey. Maybe it’ll help someone else who’s trying to understand the financial requirements of the UK spouse visa (more about that here). Maybe it’ll inspire someone to make the leap, or more likely, make someone grateful they aren’t packing up their life into a cargo container. Or maybe it’ll just be a place for me to organize my thoughts and write for fun. We’ll see!

What you can expect to find in this blog:
